Solved: IE8 won't open pages, asks to save instead

I am having trouble using Internet Explorer to browse the web. When I start IE, it tries to load the homepage, but instead of loading the page, it asks where I want to save the file.

I have tried to stop loading the homepage before it gets to that point, and asked it to load other sites (Google, Yahoo, etc.). The result is always a save dialogue.

This is not an internet access issue because Safari and Firefox both work fine.

Other things I've tried:
- Tried to load a web page from Windows Explorer. Ended up with the same dialogue box.
- Tried to reset Internet Options through Control Panel. Can't even get Internet Options to open.
- Tried re-downloading IE8 and re-installing. Didn't fix the problem.
- Updated my virus protection software, and it removed some trojan horses. Restarted the computer, but the problem persists.

Computer information: MacBook Pro, with the latest OS X and all the software updates installed, running the latest version of Parallels Desktop for Mac, running Windows XP SP2 with the latest software updates, running Internet Explorer 8.

Please help.
