Cell A1..home team score
Cell B1..Visitor team score
Cell C1..either W or L depending whether A1>B1 or A1<B1
A1=10
B1=1
C1=W
A1=1
B1=10
C1=L
Please advise how to put in a formula in C1 to show either W or L.
Thank you for your help.

Assuming you are using some recent version of MS-Excel, the following formula should work for you. I added the case where if the scores are equal, the result is a "T" for a tie. There is no checking to see if A1 and/or B1 is blank.

=IF(A1>B1,"W",IF(A1<B1,"L","T"))

Thank you very much.
Amazing how many ways I tried to do this incorrectly and see the correct way to be so simple.
WOW
Thanks again.

You're welcome.

Thank you for clearly explaining exactly what you needed. It made it easy to come up with the correct formula on the first try.
