I'm using Firefox and Windows XP and recently i can't seem to view content that requires Adobe Flash Player. I tried following the link that shows below an error message (Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player. ) The link takes me to Adobe's download page (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) However; even after i download it makes no difference. This has only been happening recently, after i purged my computer many times using various different types of security software as well as doing two system restores to the previous week in order to rid myself of a persistent virus (the Antivirus Soft Virus). I've tried disabling all my Firefox add-ons but to no avail. The security software that i am running at the moment is: Malwarebytes (the paid-for version), Eset Smart Security 4 and Spyhunter 3. I've tried turning them all off, but this made no difference either. I don't know whether it's the settings of Firefox that is the problem; the only advice that anyone has given me on other websites is "try deleting all cookies", that did not work. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem; but i am also being logged out of websites after i have signed in then logged off my computer; even after selecting the option to stay logged in. This has not happened before i started having the Flash problem... Any help would be greatly appreciated

Uninstalling and reinstalling Flash player didn't work... My Spyhunter 3 security software is stopping lots of ActiveX items working; but i'm worried that enableing them may open my PC up to viruses... Could this be the reason that i can't view Flash content?

Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 10.0.45.2 (for Internet Explorer)

Adobe Flash Player Plugin 10.0.45.2 (for Firefox)

Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.18 (for Internet Explorer and Firefox)

Download and install them. They're both needed to view the multimedia content of websites.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    HijackThis 2.0.2

Download and save it, close all open windows, install it, run a scan with it - which will take less than 30 seconds, save the log in Notepad, return here and copy-and-paste the entire log here.

Your log is running all together and is impossible to read and review that way. Did you save it in Notepad?

Open Notepad and see if Format - Word Wrap is checked or unchecked. If it's checked, uncheck it. If it's unchecked, check it.

Run a new scan and save it in Notepad, then post it here.

I did edit the startup load from your log and am posting the list here.

There are way too many programs and services auto-loading and running in the background that don't need to be doing so. Some of them don't need to auto-load and run at all, and others can be manually started when needed.

You've got uTorrent present in your log, so it's no big surprise that you're having infections.

But how do i turn these things off, and why would they be stopping Flash videos displaying?
Also; before i got infected with malware i had not downloaded from torrents for a while, and UTorrent isn't in itself illegal.

Instead of editing your log in post #5, you should've posted the new log in post #7. Now your log and my reply are out of sequence. Just leave things as they are now.

I'll assist you with trimming down the startup load, but I need to look at your edited log first to see if any issues need to be addressed first.

Start HijackThis and run a scan, then put a checkmark in

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {A3BC75A2-1F87-4686-AA43-5347D756017C} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)

then click Fix Checked - Yes, then close HijackThis.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Is that computer a desktop or a laptop?

What's the brand name, model name, and model number?

You're showing a Samsung NC10 netbook in your computer specs.

I've just done what you said, and it's a Samsung NC10 netbook
Under System in the Control Panel it has what i assume to be the model number:
    76477-OEM-0011903-00108

I'm surprised it has 2 GB or RAM in it. Every review that I've read on it shows it having 1 GB of RAM.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Start HijackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

    Click the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere. It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Adobe Reader 8.1.4 is outdated and should be replaced with version 9.3.0. You can download it from here. It'll install over and replace version 8.1.4, so there's no need to uninstall it first.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 and Java(TM) 6 Update 17 need to be uninstalled. You only need one version installed, and you already appear to have Java(TM) 6 Update 18 installed.

Free Window Registry Repair definitely needs to be uninstalled. Never ever install and use a registry cleaner/booster/optimizer. They do nothing to improve speed or performance. What they do is break certain programs and damage the operating system.

OpenOffice.org 3.1 is outdated and should be replaced with version 3.2.0. You can download it from here. It'll install over and replace version 3.1, so there's no need to uninstall it first.

After you get done and restart your computer, post a new HijackThis log here.

I'm getting ready to shut down for the night, so I'll get back to your thread in the morning.

When is the last time that you updated the definition files in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then ran a quick scan with it, then selected and removed everything it found?

I've been updating and running Malwarebytes (as well as ESET Smart Security 4 and Spyhunter 3) religiously since this netbook was infected with the "Antivirus Soft" virus last week. (I tried doing system restores which didn't clear it, and sometimes the software i just listed didn't pick it up and it infected me about 3 times). I think that it somehow accessed my system through IE's temporary internet files as this is the browser that it opened when trying to force me to buy it despite the fact that Firefox is my default. Only after purging all traces of IE from my system did i stop being re-infected. Also; Malwarebytes keeps giving me notifications that it is blocking malicious IPs when i am browsing the web.

After you're done, click Apply - OK - Exit Without Restart.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

Expand the services window so you can see the list more clearly.

    Double-click on these entries:

Google Update Service (gupdate) (gupdate) - Google Inc.

Google Updater Service (gusvc) - Google

Java Quick Starter (JavaQuickStarterService) - Sun Microsystems, Inc.

Macromedia Licensing Service - Unknown owner

If "Startup Type" is on Automatic, set it on Manual, then click Apply - OK.

Note: You have to do one entry at a time.

After you're done, close the services window and then restart your computer.

When the small System Configuration Utility window appears, ignore the message. Put a checkmark in that window and then click OK.

Start HijackThis and run a scan and then save the log.

Return here and then copy-and-paste that new log here.
