I'm having so much trouble, Can you tell by a hijack this log if I am still infected with viruses? If so, can someone help me please. I am at my wits end. I am so afraid of being infected by something that would steal financial info. I am running windows xp home, Internet explorer, Outlook express. I have tried Avg antivirus, bought CA antispy, and Adaware. The spyware shows up, but can't seem to get rid of it. I have run countless scans over the last few days to no avail. Can someone help me? I also am getting alotttt of programs "not responding". My internet connection (broadband) doesn't work half the time. I get a web page not available message alottt. I am almost to the point of reformatting and starting over, but not sure how to do that either. I'm a newbee, and have read tons of your posts to see if someone else is having these problems. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Do this:

  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
  • Open a TechSupportGuy forum Reply window for this thread, to have ready to paste the Hijackthis log into. Click once to place the typing cursor in the reply window.
  • At the top of your TSG/browser window, hit Edit then Paste
  • You should see your copied Hijackthis log appear in the reply space....then, submit the reply
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

And then this:

Open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file. Pick a place to save it then the list should open in notepad. Copy and paste that list here.

Hi, I don't see anything indicating terrible trojans, spyware in HJT log.

Was there some HP files being detected, like KillWindows.exe, Terminator, etc?

Those are often found by antispyware programs...but are safe.

If you have a saved Results or Report log from whicever program detected anything post it.

Also, restart your computer, it looks like some updates have been coming in.
