    Hello guys,

Whenever I first start internet explorer after I turn on the computer, I can see b.whataboutadog.com in my internet history. It also creates a new data file in the C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp directory (something like 1191378500.dat). I googled about it and it appears that it's a type of trojan. So far I haven't noticed anything wrong with my computer(maybe slower than normal startup time?) but can you guys please help me remove it?! Here's my HJT log.

    Good Evening chiman

I have had a look at your HijackThis Log and have provided your first set of instructions below.

    STEP 1

    Disable Program(s)

Please disable Windows Defender Real Time Protection as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Windows Defender:
    • Open Windows Defender
    • Click Tools
    • Click General Settings
    • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
    • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
    • Close Windows Defender
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Windows Defender Real Time Protection.

    STEP 2

    Download Programs

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

When you have followed the above instructions close the program.

DO NOT run a scan with this program until asked to do so.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

    When downloaded close the program.

DO NOT use this program until asked to do so.

    STEP 3

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of perceived vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6u2 .

To check your version to see if it is the latest version, Please go to this link to verify your version to get the updates needed:

You'll need to use IE and allow ActiveX for this update. Follow the instructions on that page to verify Your Java software.

Or you can get the manual download here:

Once you have installed the latest update, please go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all older instances of Java listed there.

Thank you for your prompt and detailed reply, curlylad! I have a question about step 4. Right now I have Adobe Acrobat Pro version 7 (not just the reader). Can I just use the "check for updates now..." option in Adobe Acobat Pro instead? I really need to use the create PDF ability of Acrobat Pro.

Hi Curlylad. It seems the problem is worse than I thought. When I tried to do step 1, windows defender didn't appear when I clicked on it. It turns out that whataboutadog has already moved the original windows defender to a back up file and replaced it with an infected program  I then replaced the infected program with the real one and proceeded with step 1. Now when I try to do step 3, I get the error "The installer cannot proceed with the current Internet Connection settings. Please visit the following website for more information. http://java.com/en/download/help " When I visited the website, I couldn't find that error message, please help!!!

    Good Evening chiman

The answer to that is yes, if you are using the subscribtion based or paid for version of the Adobe program then simply use the 'update' facility within the program.

Right skip steps 1 and 3 then follow the rest of the instructions.
To clarify go back to my set of instructions and do only steps 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 please and then post back the requested information.
