I'm getting internet for my other computer (Windows XP) and I'm more of a newb at the whole computer installation and connection thing. Do modems effect the performance of the internet? And if they do, would Broadband or Speedstream be better?

You only need one internet connection for all the computers in your home.

Sometimes when dial-up modems are involved. Not usually when broadband modems are.

I don't know what Speedstream is.

The term "broadband" includes DSL, cable, and satellite. Three different connections with their own pros and cons.
