I am trying to install a Linksys Cisco WRT120N router. My desktop is running XP and my laptop is running windows 7. When connecting the laptop to the new router everything works fine. When I connect the desktop to the router the the desktop cannot see the new router. I am replacing a Linksys Fast Ethernet/DSL Router with the new one which has wireless capablity. Cisco chat sessions have been entirely useless. When I hook my desktop directly to the modem it works fine.

Show for the desktop and laptop while they are both connected to the router ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Could be that you have the router's Dhcp server disabled, or a defective router LAN port or cable between router and desktop.

Working OK. was finally able to get to the router from my desktop and set it up for DSL. Then went back to my laptop and reinstalled the router. By some stroke of luck, resetting the router before reinstallling seemed to do the trick.]
