I purchased a Intel Hardware modem off of ebay. I installed it and it will dial but it is like the phone company does not hear it. I have 1.4 gig athlon 640mb ram, win XP. Is my modem dead on arrival or what?
    Thanks

Did you allow Windows to automatically detect this modem?

or.......did you have to install it manually?

Start> Settings> Control Panel> Modems> Diagnostics Tab, click the port for your modem> More Info.

If you get an error message or there is no information displayed in the identifier box the modem is not installed correctly.

If you are connecting to your ISP, check with them for any special DNS settings they may require.

Thanks for the help, the modems was sent back and I am waiting for a replacement. I tried it in a different pc and got the same effect. I am almost sure it was a dead modem.
