Hi all! I seem to have an intermittent wireless connection. The wireless only works if I turn the computer on, let it sit for a while, then restart it. I don't know if it's a driver issue, because I've tried reinstalling - it seemed to help, because the connection went from none at all to intermittent. I also know it's not a router or ISP issue - we had some issues with the internet (unrelated - weeks before this happened), and when the service dude came in, he saw what we had at our house wasn't what the company records say, so he swapped out the router/modem setup and gave us a dedicated internet line (the router doesn't go through the modem - the box he gave us uses an extra co-ax going in). We also have 2 other computers and 3 tablets that can connect perfectly, including after the router swap-out.

HELP! Police! Ambulance! Somebody get a fire tru... Oh, wait, the internet? Sorry, false alarm! everybody go home.

Does an ethernet connection work OK?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If an integrated adapter get it from the PC manufacturer's web site. For an external (or PCI) card get the driver from the card manufacturer's site.

Uninstall AVG and run the Remover. You can reinstall it after determining if it is causing your problem.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

    Also show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hey sorry I couldn't reply ASAP. I'm typing from my CM7 modded Kindle Fire (sorry if mistakes present)
The Ethernet is also not working. It is not a driver problem, because both wired and wireless connections worked fine at a friends house. But as oddly enough, other computer work absolutly fine on both wird and widless connections! I will be posting about the xirrus thing in a order post (about 5 mins)

    Thank you all!!!

Hello Mr. TerryNet! I have uninstalled AVG, and run the remover, and so far it seems like the problem is gone. I have a perfect internet connection. I did the uninstallation about 8:00 last night (2/28 pacific), and right now it's 6:45 (the next day - 2/29 - the problem would be back if the computer is shutdown overnight - which it was). I will also make another post at about 3:00 today. I have the screenshots attached, as I'm doing this with the computer.

Your signal strength is just barely strong enough for a stable connection. And if that other network gets any stronger you may want to use channel 1 or 6 to guarantee no wireless interference. And consider using WPA-PSK TKIP encryption unless you have an old device that does not support it. Otherwise, it all looks good.

Actually, The Nexaira thing is my neighbor's; my friend lives elsewhere. Also, I was receiving stable internet before this problem occured - there is also 25-30 feet of space, and a wall between me and the router. Other than that, I don't know what Channel 1 or 6 is, and the cable guy setup the security, and frankly, I'm kinda scared to mess around with the router - I don't know how to. The cable guy said that there isn't really a need for security were we live, there won't be hackers showing up on our doorstep trying to get free wifi. We just wanted a password on it.

Anyhoo, I think the culprit was AVG, 'cause the internet worked after the uninstall and reboot. Here are the stats:

Thank you so much!! But, I still want internet protection. Do I just reinstall with the recommended settings, or get another one? I have an AVG license until 2018, and I'm kinda short on cash.

You can reinstall AVG and you will probably not have any problems with it. At least for weeks or months. All those firewalls and security suites have to dig so deep into the guts of the system to keep malware from going around or under them that they tend to get corrupted sometimes and the only fix is to get them completely cleaned out and then to reinstall. I wouldn't bet that you can run until 2018 w/o another problem, but you know how to handle it now. :)
