Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

Have you tried the System File Checker? It can rectify problems with IE if there is any corruption. You may need your Windows O/S disk in the drive for it to work. Click on Start>Run, in the Run box type cmd then click OK. A command window will open, type sfc /scannow and press Enter key. A progress bar will appear, let it finish then reboot your computer.

Yes, I have tried System File Checker now, and then restarted. Nothing has changed. :(

Pagefix is a program for website fixing as I observed, so it doesn't work.

HOWEVER, a friend of mine fixed this problem. In the connection section, we noticed that "use proxy server for your LAN" was checked. I unchecked it, and the problem solved. I don't know why that box was checked or why unchecking it solved my problem but whatever, it's okay now.

    :)
