Solved: Internet Explorer Home Page

I need help locking in my home page when going on to the Internet. I use "my.yahoo.com" for my home page but ever since my daughter went to her "my.yahoo.com" home page I can not open IE to open to my home page. I have tried several ways to change this including Internet Options > General> Home Page>Current. I have deleted temp files, cookies, history. Every time I refresh to get on to the Internet it goes to my daughters home page. I am able to eventually get in to my page by signing in every time. But I would rather not have to do that since it is my home computer. Once I am signed in on on my page if I minus the page my daughters page is behind mine. Where am I going wrong here. Thanks.

This is the problem. The page that opens up auitomatically is also a "my.yahoo.com" page. It may or may not actually be my daughters page but that is irrelavent. My own "my.yahoo.com " is my own custom page. Normally when I boot up from my desk top and click the big "E" I go directly to my Yahoo home page. Currently it defaults to a Yahoo page I don't want to be on because then I need to sign in with my user name and password to get to my site. Something has gone wrong here and I haven't been able to remedy it yet. I have tried your suggestion several times with any luck.

Do you have Norton's? If so, you may want to check to see if you have Home Page Protection under the Internet setting in Norton's. She may have changed it from your my.yahoo.com home page and when the window popped-up saying the home page had changed - she allowed it. If that's what is keeping her home page from being changed, even though you're trying to change it: Clear the checkmark in "Turn On Homepage Protection" in Norton's.

I don't have Norton I'm using Avast. I have a feeling it may have something to do with the Cookies but I'm not familiar with how to handle that. I'll check Avast to see if it has anything blocking me setting a default page in Internet options. Right now I don't believe it will hold any site that I try to save as current.

I have been trying to lock in my home page on Internet Explorer without success. Something is preventing it from saving and forcing me to sign in everytime I go on the Internet in order to get to my home page. After spendng over an hour with tech support for my DSL it was suggested I reload my IE brouser. Can someone walk me through this? Will I lose all of my current web site settings, including favorites (bookmarks) and custom pages? Do I need to uninstall IE first? I don't look forward to doing this but I may have to.

I merged both threads together. Please do not start a new one for the same issue but continue to troubleshoot here.

What version of Internet Explorer are you running?

Are you constantly logged into your my.yahoo page? Because if you log out then IE is not going to take you there.

Please do this:

Please go here to download HijackThis.
  • To the right of the green arrow under HijackThis downloads click on the Executable button and download the HijackThis.exe file to your desktop.
  • Double-click the HijackThis.exe file on your desktop to launch the program. If you get a security warning asking if you want to run this software because the publisher couldn't be verified click on Run to allow it.
  • Click on the Scan button. The scan will not take long and when it's finished the resulting log will open automatically in Notepad.
  • Click on the Save log button and save the log file to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your post.
Please do not fix anything with HijackThis unless you are instructed to do so. Most of what appears in the log will be harmless and/or necessary.

This was a strange solution. Every time I attempted to get on to the Internet through IE I wold automatically be logged in to "my.yahoo.com home page where I would then need to again log in to my custom ATT yahoo custom site that I've been going directly to for years. All week I have tried to get rid of the first log in page to no avail. I have logged out of it several times only to be automatically logged in to it again even though I had unchecked the remember box. Late last night after logging in to the my.yahoo.com site I tried one for time to log out and then typed in my custom ATT Yahoo page and suddenly I'm there and the other Yahoo site is no longer sitting in the background. I went directly to Tools>Options> and under Current Site saved the current site. Even though I had done the same procedure several times this is the first time it finally worked correctly. I have no idea why it wouldn't work correctly before but I am now able to automatically log straight to my home page. Problem solved.
