    Hi all,

    I'm back again and this time with more of a question than a problem (Thank goodness). When I turned on my laptop today I noticed there was a new icon in my Network Connections section. It's called Internet Gateway. I haven't downloaded anything (weird or otherwise), I'm still able to connect to the internet and nothing seems to be amiss. Is this harmful to my system or is it just one of the Windows/Microsoft quirks?

    Thanks again and have a great day!!!

    PS if this is in the wrong section Mods please show me the way.

    I have one also (now, but not always). A Windows/Microsoft quirk is a good label for it, although I would call it an annoyance or something less kind. :)

    Yes, I've only seen it in XP.

    SSDP discovery service by default "manual" service. Sometimes (i don't know why) it's goes to "Started". I suppose torrent clients enabling it to have uPnP port mapping available on router.

    Thanks, xalerik. Now that you jogged my memory I believe it does depend on UPnP being enabled on the router. UPnP is enabled on my router, as I have a network camera that uses it.

    Hi everyone,

    Thanks for taking the time to weigh in on this XP weirdness. lol

    @ TerryNet...

    *waves* Hi Terry thanks again for that help on the other thread. But yes the Internet Gateway just 'appeared'. I was concerned only because I hadn't installed anything and I just wanted to make sure I hadn't been hacked, hijacked, or anything unpleasant like that. lol

    @ Elvandil...
    Yep I can only speak for XP because that's all I'm running in my house.

    @xalerik...
    I can't speak for folks who use torrents because I've never used them.

    But thanks everyone for your input and I'll just mark this solved!

    Thanks again!
