That sounds low even for "basic". Do you get this speed with 1 computer connected directly to the DSL modem? If you do you may want to inquire at the DSL provider to find out why there may be factors outside your home causing this drop.

If they say that is "standard" then I am sorry theres not much more you can do.

Usually you can find on their site some kind of speed indications for whichever plan your signed up for as well.

It would help if you provided the contract speeds that you're supposed to get with your service. You should also supply details of how you've measured the speed, like www.dslreports.com speed tests, etc.

well actually i have a router set up too. that is connected to one more computer. i was actually looking for some type of a software that may increase my speed. and i did talk with my provider and they told me my speed is 160 Kilobits/s.and i am paying $25 canadian monthly. is that a fair price or should i consider changing my provider.

If your contract speed is 160, 16kb/sec is pretty much what you can expect. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Since I know nothing about Canadian suppliers, only you can make the determination if there are better deals around.

I pay $43 (US) and I have 6000/384 speeds from Comcast.
