In the last 12 to 14 days, I have been experiencing an intermittent problem when I attempt to check my email with Incredimail. Incredimail is set to check my email hosted by my ISP first then any other accounts. Periodically, when I check my mail I get a message stating : Failed to connect to the Incoming Server "mail.xxxxxxxx.com (x's being the ISP name). Please try again later. Then below that, there is a small box which states : ERR: Intrusion Protection active for XXX.XXX.X.XX (the x's being my IP address)

I will get this message for most of the evening. However, the next morning, everything will be fine until later in the evening when this all starts again.

I run Avast free and it is active and updated. Superantispyware updated as well as Malwarebytes updated. I ran all three yesterday with expected results (no virus, spyware or malware). I suspended all antivirus, spyware and malware programs and tried to log into my email again with the same Error msg.

Last evening, I contacted my ISP about this problem. They have no idea what any of this means. They haven't ever heard of this error msg before and have no idea where it could be coming from.

I have included a screen shot of the error, however I changed the identifying info contained within it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Rob

Looks like your IP address has been blocked or blacklisted by the email server. Great help your ISP has been... They're all the same.

Is SMTP Authentication enabled in Incredimail?

    Hello Phantom010,

Is SMTP Authentication enabled in Incredimail? Yes. It is checked. I've also tried it with the check mark removed but then it doesn't work at all.

I'm no expert but I really don't think it has anything to do with the IP address being blocked or blacklisted by the email server. I've cycled the modem several times which gives me a new IP address every time. However, the problem persists. As I said in the original post, this is an intermittent problem. The funny thing is that the problem is prevalent in the evening and through the night. I don't remember seeing it during the day.

If there is a weird problem that could arise that no one can help with, it happens to me. lol

    Thanks again Phantom010

Your IP address could be listed on an anti-spam database.

    Blacklist Check

Do you have another email client on your computer you could test?

    Hello again Phantom010,

I've run the blacklist check you recommended. I found my IP address is listed in the l2.apews.org database.

I'm contacting my ISP right now. Going to get to the bottom of this right now. Will let you know what they say as soon as I get off the phone.

Also, I don't have another email client to check this with.

Thank you very much for your help. I'll get back to you as soon as I get a response from my ISP.

    Rob

Only one database is not conclusive.

It may not be conclusive but it just may give my ISP somewhere to start. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with my ISP night before last. They searched every database they had with no results. This is a new one to them. As I said before, if it's weird......it happens to me. LOL

how frequently is incredimail set to check for mail
if it is set to check more often than every 10 minutes, some ISPs see that as a dictionary attack and will block you

Phantom010 - Had a friend of mine who is a certified tech in a puter shop come over and check this system. Nothing wrong on this end.

dvk01 - Incredimail is set to check every 5 minutes. I'll reset it to check every 15 minutes and see what happens.

I really thank you both for your input so far. I'll be back as soon as I try this last option.

OK I double checked the firewall and it is set to allow Incredimail through

I reset Incredimail to check every 15 minutes and it seemed to alleviate the problem.......... till it got dark outside. Now we're back to the same problem. This is getting weirder and weirder all the time. I think it's about time for a long extended talk with my ISP. This is obviously their problem. Will keep this thread updated as I go along.

Not nescessary wierd. Some blacklists are only active for 24 hours, including on the server side as well.

Try running a scannow /sfc to see if that helps.

Is this by chance a typo? Should it be sfc /scannow ?
