In spite of all the security software I have, it appears that my system may have been invaded once more  Symptons: 1. Virus Program (AVG) gets stuck in the middle of a scan and cannot progress (I have to close it manually). 2. Everything is VERY slow (yes, I did defrag recently). 3. System won't re-start (I have to hold the power button in to shut it down and restart. 4. A short time ago, the system went into a "coma" and wouldn't even re-start while holding the power button in; I had to actually unplug the power supply and plug it in to get it to restart. I did recently download updates from Microsoft, but I was having these problems before that.

A scan from HijackThis follows. As always, any help will be greatly appreciated

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

    O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\GhostSurf 2006 Platinum\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

    Yes, looks fine. Any problems?

Yes, everything looks fine now(y) Thank you! One question, if you don't mind: is that free program that you had me download, SuperAntispyware, just as good as or better than Spy Sweeper that I pay for? It's just that I'm getting tired of paying for anti-virus and spy ware programs that find only the most common infections. AVG, Zone Alarm, Spy Sweeper...they were all on duty here and this got through. Are they worth keeping at all? Thank you again for your help and advice.:)

SUPERAntiSpyware is a trial version so you can keep that until the trial is over and then uninstall or purchase it if you want to.

It's very difficult for the anti-malware and anti-virus companies to keep up with the daily activities of the bad guys so I can not say one product is *better* than another. You have to keep your guard up as well!
