Hey TSG,

Below I have the text of an email from a friend of mine who's experiencing some problems. I was hoping some of you would give me your take on the problem as to why it's happening and what can be done to solve it.

I don't have much info on the machine yet, but will get it in the next email.

The information I do have:
- The laptop was reformatted using the Recovery Partition days ago.
- Everything else is in working order.
- Avast! Antivirus is installed, updated, and running as well as Windows Firewall.
"I just turned the laptop on this afternoon 4:15pm and the courser was not in view. I could move my finger around the touch pad and cause different areas to brighten up as if there was a visible courser. If I hit enter nothing happens. I must shut down the computer to correct it. This the second time today this happen. HELP!"
Any ideas?

Have you asked your friend if there are any yellow question marks in device manager.Or have them uninstall the pointing driver and reboot.

Tried installing the latest drivers for the trackpad, haven't heard any results about using a USB mouse.

It's visible when booted into Windows normally as well, it just disappears randomly. Could be 3 times in an hour, or once a day.

Doesn't disappear in Safe Mode though. At least during the time he tested it.

I did some research, and this seems to be a common problem with the HP Pavilion dv6000 running Windows Vista.

It appears that the cursor disappears after some time being idle.

There seems to be no permanent fix (haven't tried re-installing Windows though).

A workaround is enabling point trails and setting it to the shortest setting (to diminish annoyances).

I'll go ahead and mark this as solved with that as the solution.
