I'm getting a new desktop PC for Christmas, and according to the vendor, it's optimized for gaming, but I'm not sure if these specs will be good enough:

CPU: Phenom X3 8450 (2.10GHz, triple nucleus)
RAM: 2 Gb
HDD: 320 Gb
OS: Windows Vista (I want to install Windows 7 afterwards)
Graphics card: a 256Mb card, but I have a GeForce 6200 (512 Mb) in my current computer that I'd install

Now a big question I have is that my current CPU works at 3.0GHz, but it's a single core... which CPU would be better for gaming, the X3 on the new PC or the single core I have now (running Windows 7, with the geforce card I mentioned)?

Neither really. Geforce 6200 is an awful card by today's standards. The first generation Phenom CPUs are quite awful too. A 3.0 GHz single core is worse though.
What are you paying for that?

I would go with

for the CPU. With any luck you can unlock some cores. That is, if your board supports AM3.
As far as GPU goes, you really need something better than that.

I'm still using an 8800GT 512 and can play just about everything.
Granted, I only play at 1440x900
But you can pick up a very nice card for 100-200

Another situation where building it yourself is a good idea. :p
