Hi, I have Windows XP Professional and I use the Internet Explorer browser. My computer has a virus (possibly a hijacker), but so far it hasn't caused me much trouble. When online, I'm always getting pop-ups advertising "Outerinfo". My browser windows will randomly close, and every once in awhile symbols get added to the urls I type in, causing them not to work. I thought that I had Norton Anti-Virus on my computer, but apparently it was never installed. I run checks through Ad-Aware and Ewido occasionally. I installed AVG 7.5, and ran a scan yesterday.

::Report end

The report was saved before I did anything, so everything was deleted, despite the "No action taken". Today, I have had no trouble so far, but I haven't been online for very long. I think I may have gotten rid of it, but I don't know how to make sure. I have KillBox, Hijackthis, and a file called Del Domains, all of which I was told to download the last time I acquired a virus. I plan to install the Windows Service Package 2 (right now I only have '1'), but haven't done it quite yet.

So I guess my question is, how do I make sure the virus is gone?

~Kelsey

Edit: Scratch the "no trouble so far"; still getting pop-ups from Outerinfo. New question, how do I get rid of this? xD

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Scroll down to the download section

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

You have no active AntiVirus!

Get the free AVG AntiVirus 7.5 install it, check for updates and run a full scan

AVG 7.5 - http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
============================

You may want to print this or save it to notepad as we will go to safe mode.

Fix these with HiJackThis – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CB2B726B-B8DA-EB5E-FF9C-E2FBFF162294} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jjxygu.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CB2B726B-B8DA-EB5E-FF9C-E2FBFF162294} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jjxygu.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ottt] "C:\DOCUME~1\KELSEY~1\MYDOCU~1\SSTEM~1\winlogon.exe" -vt yazr

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Keb] C:\Documents and Settings\Kelsey Hudson\My Documents\?ppPatch\r?ndll.exe

DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip or
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\Documents and Settings\Kelsey Hudson\My Documents\?ppPatch
C:\DOCUME~1\KELSEY~1\MYDOCU~1\SSTEM~1

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new hijack log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

Meh, I have it. I think it got deactivated when I had to restart my computer.

Killbox said both files didn't exist. All temp files were deleted. I haven't had any problems for several days, and I've been on the internet a good bit.

Oooh. Okay. I've downloaded it and scanned. Is there anything else I need to do?

Erg. Yes, well this was solved. But I never got around to check it as solved. And now I have another problem. The AVG Anti-Virus has found a virus, 14 threats, most located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Business Planner Templates\ area. Actually, here's the log.

So yeah. I've had it since the 13th but didn't realize because avg always ran the scan while I was at school. The "heal" thing, won't work. It says there's not enough information. I don't know exactly what "Move to Vault" is or what would happen if the files were deleted, which is why I'm asking what to do.

I feel so helplessly ignorant. -_-

Move to Vault is a way to put the files where they do no damage and can be kept

Let's see what Panda says

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan
