So, up till yesterday both my sata HD and dvd burner were both recognized by Vista (and xp) and I was able to use them.

For some reason the dvd burner is no longer showing up in the bios, at startup, or in the OS. It still has power, but I can't figure out how to bring it back...

Any ideas?

Using custom install of Vista (basically ultimate)

Hi there,

Do you know the moel number for the drive? It is possible that somehow the firmware was corrupt, amking it unrecognizable. If you download a new firmware image and write it to the drive, that is, if you are able, it could solve your problem.

Also, I would recommend trying it on a different SATA channel first, just to be sure the channel is not the problem.

Hope this helps.

Definitely power down. Some are swappable and some aren't. it is hard to tell just by looking, so play it safe. =)

But why? why would the original port all of a sudden not work?
