I am trying to help a friend.

When trying to import from multiple CDs, to AAC format, iTunes stops / hangs / stalls.

When trying to import to wav format, it works.

    W7 Ultimate 32 bit
    iTunes 10.

    WMP 12

My friend upgraded from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to W7 32 bit > 6 mon ago.
Custom PC; Intel quad 6600 2.0 GHZ; 4 GB ram
iTunes is the default media player

I know very little about iTunes, so the only troubleshooting I have tried is to import to wav, which, as noted above, worked. I don't kinow where / if iTunes stores logs about problems & errors.
In W7's action center's problems area, there are no entries about iTunes. Only entry is about video drivers.

    Thanks for your help.

edit: sorry for the typos; meant AAC.

iTunes cannot play or import music from a CD in this drive. The drive may need a firmware update. Check with the manufacturer.

    Get drive speed succeeded.

    The drive CDR speeds are: 8 10 16 40 48.

The drive CDRW speeds are: 8.

The drive DVDR speeds are: 8.

The drive DVDRW speeds are: 8.

Error Correction is turned on for importing audio CDs.

Writing CD text is turned on in the preferences. If you’re having problems burning CDs, try turning this preference off.

    I bolded the crux.

The drive will be replaced. Firmware updates are not available from Memorex.

    Solved.
