Anyone out there know why my(any) computer may freeze when navigating in Kazaa? I have days when I can use Kazaa endlessly and other days when the computer freezes(i.e. the cursor/arrow freezes then disappears) either when I first enter the site or shortly thereafter. I've tried all the resources I know that exist on Windows ME and on ComcastSupport-but, nothing works. Please give me some ideas. Thanks.

Hello and welcome!

Are you running Kazaa or Kazaalite? If you are running Kazaa I guarantee you that you have spyware in your computer.

Please go to the following site, download and rund StartupList. Save the results and paste them back here.

Kazaa does not work well at all with Windows ME, 98, or 95. It takes up tons of system resources, which is probably what your problem is. Each time you click a new window in Kazaa, it takes up more and more resources, until eventually your system can't handle it, and it freezes. If possible, I would recommend an upgrade to Windows XP, but if you can't, then that's ok. If you are using Kazaa, then you should completely un-install it, and then run Ad-Aware to get rid of any spyware it left behind. Then, download and install Kazaa Lite. I got mine from http://www.k-lite.tk, it comes with tons of better features then regular kazaa, and it has no spyware.

I have pasted your startup list here for all to see. Also: Ad-aware is not recommended, as it has not been updated in many months. Until the new release is issued, it is highly recommended to d/l and run Spybot. Get it here:http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

I recently ran Spybot on my system to rid Kazaa of any spyware. Being new to Spybot, does this mean that it is now safe to use Kazaa without the fear of my computer freezing as it did in the past?
Also, if I were to transition from Kazaa to Kazaa-lite, how do you transfer the files in My Shared Folder? How do you deal with the fact the source file (i.e. Kazaa) no longer exists and the potential of not being able to access those downloaded files in Kazaa-lite once Kazaa is uninstalled?

h ernie.....dont worry about kazaa,i`ll explain later.
1st delete kazaa in add/remove programs(move your"my shared folder" to another place, like my docs)....then you must get rid of all the crap that "grokster" and "kazaa"and probably more programs have kindly left you.
open "spybot" click the "online"tab and "search for updates"
now run it again and let it fix everything it checks in RED .
then post another startuplist here.

now,as for kazaa....your WELL shut of it.
download "kazzalite"its exactly like "kazaa" it uses the same interface and the same users as "kazaa"......the only difference is K/L has been made by the people who use it and have taken all the add/spy/foistware out.

Hey $teve-thanks for the advice. It all sounds very good. However, I tried to uninstall Kazaa, but got nothing but an error message. It read:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\cd_clint.dll
Missing Entry: ServiceRunDll

Please note that I ran a SpyBot search on my system and I saw on their problem list a C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM\cd_clint.dll file. This is probably significant-you think?

Please help.

That's right $teve - if someone runs adaware or spybot before uninstalling Kazaa, then Kazaa won't work or uninstall.

They always should uninstall Kazaa, then run Spybot in that order.

Thanks for all your help. I was able to uninstall Kazaa and install Kazaa-lite. But wait - what's that - another problem. (It)never fails. I don't think this one is as drastic, however.

Kazaa-lite transferred/copied the files I had in the My Shared folder (Kazaa) in My Documents to My Shared Folder (Kazaa-lite). I didn't prompt it to do this. Is this standard? I'm not even sure if the folder in My Documents was the source. I would like to delete the My Shared Folder (Kazaa) in My Documents to free up disk space. Because the file is so large, I can't send it to the recycle bin. I have to delete it completely out of my system. Is it safe to do this now (i.e., will the files in My Shared Folder(Kazaa-lite) be affected?

Thanks and I hope you can help again.

Yes, it's standard form for Kazaalite to put songs in the my shared files folder. You can change that in options.

And yes it is safe to delete the files, just make sure you save whatever you still want. You can also look in the folder and select certain files to save or delete. Whatever you choose, Kazaalite will continue to save new files in the shared files folder.
