My computer with the problem is a Gateway Notebook LT2104u running Microsoft Windows 7. When I open Internet Explorer and type in numbers, letters or symbols, the result on screen is a consecutive string of numbers, i.e. 12345678901234567890 but the string may also start randomly at 45678901234567890. I have Norton Antivirus software on the notebook provided by Comcast. I also bought a driver manager as an add on by Norton as suggested by other tech web sites and scanned and updated the drivers with no benefit, the problem still remains. The keyboard works just fine in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. I can type in MS Word, cut and paste into Internet Explorer and the resulting search or entry works fine. I have checked the cap lock and num locks settings. I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem or how to fix it?

    Try disabling add-ons in IE.

I disabled add-ons in Internet Explorer as suggestede. The foolish thing still types only sequential numbers. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

That seems to have solved the problem. I rebooted the laptop several times and opened the IE Version 9 and was able to see exactly what I typed from the keyboard each time.
Thank you very much for the suggestion and help!!!
