My LAN is not receiving packets. I believe I have the proper driver, but there appears to be some issue with configuration. I'm running 32-bit Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavillion dv6915nr (dv6700) with an Nvidia nForce 10/100/100 Mbps Ethernet Adapter. Wireless works fine, but not LAN. Any ideas?

just as an aside - we have a seen a lot of issues with that wireless adapter on vista - when a change takes place in the router etc - the fix is a new driver from the atheros site - we can detail that , once solved - just in case it happens to you in the future at all

have you checked the cable - does the cable work on another PC ?

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, kaspersky or Mcafee or any free security suites like zonealarm, AVG , Webroot etc

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8

    For Windows Vista/Windows 7
Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on the screen ):

    For Windows 8
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop. Use Win + X and choose Command Prompt or Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands:

Note: Type only the text in bold and red for the following commands.

    • Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog and press enter
    • Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log and press enter
    • Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log and press enter
    ReStart (reboot) the machine.

    If you receive the message
    The requested operation requires elevation.
Then please open the command prompt as administrator - as requested above
Start> Programs> Accessories> and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):
Please note and post back - if you receive the following message :-
    Access is Denied

please post back the results in a reply here - its important we know that these commands have worked correctly and not produced any errors
right click in the command prompt box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Thanks for responding. I ran the commands as Administrator and received no errors, but when I rebooted, LAN was still an Unidentified Network w/ Limited Connectivity & no internet access. However, I followed your link and got: Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002] Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. C:\Windows\system32>netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt Reseting Echo Request, failed. Access is denied. Reseting Interface, OK! A reboot is required to complete this action. My apologies. I got hopeful the commands would work & forgot to answer your question. I was using Comodo, but I uninstalled it & I'm just using Windows Firewall with default settings. Also, I am using AVG Free with Computer and Web Browsing installed/enabled (but not the AVG Firewall) for my anti-virus. Thanks, again, for responding. Btw, wireless works fine.

Remove AVG then run the removal tool.
    http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

    Reboot the machine.

Check for any leftover drivers for comodo and AVG with this tool.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

If found untick them and reboot.

Disable the tunnnel adapters on your machine with this fix it.
    http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9728872

Also reset your hosts files this is an important step when dealing with internet issues that is often overlooked.

Thanks instantninja, I removed AVG and followed the other instructions and received no errors, but two Microsoft ISATAP Adapters showed up in Device Manager with yellow cuation signs over them. Unfortunately, LAN is still an Unidentified Network with Limited Connectivity, i.e. ethernet is not working.

Although I could find the Unknown Device ID "DeviceList" Report that I saved in the Unknown Device ID folder, I was able to discern the following info from it:

    NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet
    -Chip: Nvidia MCP67 Ethernet
    -Detail
    --PnpID
    ---VEN_10DE&DEV_054C&SUBSYS_30CF103C&REV_A2
    --Vendor
    ---NVIDIA
    --Device
    ---NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet
    --Chip Vendor
    ---Nvidia
    --Chip
    ---MCP67 Ethernet

    and

    -Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
    --Vendor: Microsoft
    --PnpID:*isatap

the rest seemed irrelevant to the device(s) in question.

Go to your manufactures website and get the latest.
NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Driver for your machine.

At the very least open your device manager right click the driver then select un install then reboot the machine.

Also you might need to run a check disk on this machine as well.

Thank you, I've reinstalled the NVIDIA nForce... driver many times; both, from the manufacturer's website and through Device Manager, and it says it's up to date and working, but it isn't/doesn't. Network & Sharing says Unidentified Network with Limited Connectivity. Packets are being sent, but not received.

For the record, the NVIDIA nForce 10/... driver is part of the chipset driver, it's not listed under the Internet drivers on HP's website.

Does the "router" that you are connected to have any kind of Mac Address Block/Allow filter on?

Thanks for the ideas everyone. lan did not connect under a new admin user account and there was no Mac Addr block filter on the router. Btw, I was confused when I said I downloaded the driver from the manufacturer, I actually downloaded the chipset driver from HP (which contained the driver) and could not find the NVIDIA 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet Adapter driver on NVIDIA's website. In addition, I have found several solutions on the interwebs that suggest using Recovery Manager to install the original driver, but I don't have Recovery Manager on my machine. :( Thanks, again, keep the ideas coming, please.

I may have missed your answer to Wayne's question about the cable. Let me rephrase it ...

Are you using a known good cable--one that works with gigabit (all eight wires, not just four as for 10/100 Mbps ethernet)?
