Hi guys,
Being Canadian, we have the option of a program dialogue being in either the
French or English language. I was having a little difficulty reinstalling the
program files and drivers for my Epson Photo 820 Printer when I was transfering
data to my new PC but managed to overcome them and got everything? working
fine .... except ... all dialogue I click on in the Epson program files shows all the
text in the English language until I open the Epson Printer settings window and
everything connected to this window is in French ???? I have been digging thru
every file I can think of in Epson and cannot locate a file concerning language
preference. Can someone please help me. :confused:

Hi birdog2,

Have you tried searching the registry for a relevant string like "epson" to see if there is a setting there that controls the installation configuration.

If that doesn't correct the configuration, I would back up the installation of the files for the Epson on the old PC, and transfer it to the new PC overtop of a reinstall onto the new PC only if the OS is the same from the old PC to the new PC.

Is the program dialogue feature applicable to only the printer, or to other application dialogues? If applicable to other applications, then it may be a system wide or group policy that needs to be reconfigured - depending on your OS. Check out the group policies on your old PC and make sure they are the same on your new PC.

Hi Tom, :)
Thanks for the note. I am a little leery to play around with the registry on
my own but the reinstall option has been on the back of my mind. Was
hoping for a quick fix but I guess it`s not to be.

Hi Frank,

Start->Run->regedit->ok
pull-down Edit->Find->type in string->hit enter

Its as easy as that!

Let me know what you find, and I'll talk you through it.

Hi Tom,
Did as you suggested, typed in-< Epson Printer-> hit enter... but could find nothing that
could be construed as relating to language preference. As far as I know... at this point,
the problem only exists with the printer settings window.

Hi Frank,

Try separately, the search strings for "French" and "English" - you never know what will pop up in the registry!

Also, when searching, a good rule to follow is to search for the least common denominator, so your search expression above, < Epson Printer-> would be a least common denominator as: <epson>. If its in the registry at all, your scan probably missed it with your search string, i.e. too specific.

Hi Tom,
Voila !! Problem repaired !! I don`t know exactly where I made the correction
but I just followed your line of reasoning and all is back in English.
Many thanks,
Frank.
