Ive have replaced a Toshiba 60Gb SATA150 5400rpm drive for a Seagate 120Gb SATA300 7200rpm drive, is there a program that can test performance of both so I can see the diff.?
CONFUSED:
I used Passmark Performance Test Free Version on both drives.. the 1st test on both seemed great showing 30% increase on new drive but to be sure i retested both several times (while all other apps and superfetch closed) but on the 2nd test on the slower drive showed the results to be virtually exactly the same...
1st test....
OLD NEW
20.6 32.9 Sequential Read
23.0 31.9 Sequential Write
1.78 2.49 Random Seek + RW
164.2 243.3 Overall Disk Mark
32.8 48.7 Passmark SCORE
2nd + 3rd + 4th tests all were similar
OLD NEW
32.9 33.4 Sequential Read
29.2 31.3 Sequential Write
2.09 2.51 Random Seek + RW
229.0 243.0 Overall Disk Mark
45.8 48.6 Passmark SCORE
as you can see the 1st test showed about 30% increase which is what i expected from a drive that spins 30% faster...but as I tested on the scores were virtually the same and sometimes the old drive was BETTER than the new... is the is PASSMARK software really any good? how could it measure the 30% less score then 1 minute later measure it 30% better??? (im aware the hard-drive might be accesing for windows but everything was closed and ensured no disk activity was active whilst testing)
ALSO: I have read about the SATA300 that you need to remove the Jumper from the drive.. I have done this and the tests are EXACTLY THE SAME... what does this mean?
I was expecting a 50% decrease in load times as I was switching from 5400rpm 150 to 7200rpm 300
can anyone shed some light on this and advise of some decent software used to test throughput of hard drives??
THANKS
