I'm looking at a windows 7 laptop and trying to sort out the library feature - I don't have a copy of windows 7 so cannot emulate the issue

But on the library if you click on pictures or videos - it shows all the library's available

I know the library feature allows you to bring files and folders into one place - but by default I have not seen the library show all the livrarys, music, pictures, videos etc in each section

OR

i have not noticed before

So if i click on pictures - I see all the picture folders and the music folder and the videos folder

is this normal and can i just remove the library's - so photos just shows photos

You can add or remote folders from libraries, but you can't remove libraries. It's a component of Windows.

so if i click on the Library - Pictures - what should be listed?
if just pictures - then how do i remove the music and video library's from the picture view
BUT
still keep the music and video listed under the library's folder

you get

---> Library
-----------> Pictures
------------------------> picture folders
------------------------> Music Folders
------------------------> Video folders
------------------------> Public folders
-----------> Videos
------------------------> Video folders
------------------------> picture folders
------------------------> Music Folders
------------------------> Public folders
etc

Your friend clearly did something to his computer to create that mess. I'd be reluctant to mess with it too much without a better understanding of what he did.

See my attachment; click on the # of locations (circled). If this is going to be simple to unravel you will see a bunch of locations, and you can remove the ones that shouldn't be included in the particular library.

Can't guarantee that even this will be completely smooth. My Pictures Library on this machine claims 3 locations, but there are really only two.

Thanks DoubleHelix & Terrynet

I'll try and get more info and look at the number of locations as well

terrynet - can i see a screen shot when you click on your picture library under windows 7

I noticed you have

Documents
music
pictures
videos

if you just click on pictures whats listed
also when i right clicked on each library the size was reported as 6.3GB , the same size reported on all the libraries when i right click

just wondered if yours is the same

I'm out tomorrow re-setting up a wireless printer and other wireless devices following virgin media replacing a router at a friends - and this HP printer the instructions say to re-install the printer ........ anyway - she also has a windows 7 laptop - so i may get a look there and see the structure of the library

Right clicking on a library the only size I get is "Size of files in library." Mine is different for each library, and seems to be an accurate sum in each case.

can i see a screen shot when you click on your picture library under windows 7
I assume that you mean in the Navigation pane; I am showing that and also the expansion for Music.
