I belong to a gardening community on the Web. As a member I have 3 URL's. From WordPerfect I can Publish to HTML. I just don't know what to do after that. My questions are these:
    1. What is the difference between linking and hyperlinking?
    2. Once I have the file ready to link to the URL how do I do this?
    3. How do I edit the file once it is linked?

    Hi Galium.

    Welcome to TSG.

    In answer to your questions.

    1. Linking and hyperlinking are basically the same thing, just different terminology.

You can link to either files within your web site or outside your web site. Whichever one, the basic priciples are the same.

    2. To link to another file the basic setup of the link is

    Code:
<a href="this is the name of the file or web address">Here is the text describing the link</a>
If the link is a file(or sometimes called a page) within the web site it would look something like

    Code:
    To see next page, <a href="nextpage.html">click here.</a>
    This will look something like

To see next page, click here.

To link to an external file or site, you simply insert that files or sites url in place of 'nextfile.html'.

    3. A file is still just a file.

By linking to a file you do not change the properties of that file. You are merely providing access to it.

    Hope this helps.

To learn a bit more, why not go to one of the many web sites that offer tutorials on html.
One excellent source of information is w3 schools at

    http://www.w3schools.com/html/

Hope this helps you get going.

Thanks that was helpful. Just one question. Why do I need to know HTML if I can publish to HTML with just a click of a button in WordPerfect? Also when I link the file to my URL will the pictures be linked also? Probably a stupid question

THere will be a time down the track where you will need some html knowledge.

If word perfect is doing it all for you, then keep going with it.

Now this is where a little html knowledge comes in handy.:p

Remember where I had placed the 'click here statement between <a></a>?

Instead of 'click here' you can place an image in there by using something like

    Code:
    <img src="images/linkimage.jpg">
with of course the correct path put in there.

    Since you're using WordPerfect:

then click on the link button (looks something like this [IMG]).

then put in the url you want it to link to

    Hope that helps :)
