as of today i cannot seem to click on links on any website the frame comes up but nothing there just blank see through frame. its nothing to do with my pop up stopper as i turned it off. I dont think anything has changed on my settings.
A bit more of a clue i am now getting messages about secure and non secure pages and do i want to continue, also non of my passwords get stored anymore. so i guess this is a security issue?? i have just had broadband installed any help most appreciated

With the security, I can tell you that it is normal and that you are barking up the wrong tree. It's just telling you that you are entering/exiting a secure server, which is a handy (and very important) feature if you use a credit card online. I fail to see how it could affect normal links.

Apart from narrowing it down a bit, I can't be of much help. However, hold on a little while and you'll probably get more informed replies. It may even help if you download HijackThis!, a small app which allows us to spot the nasty stuff on your PC. Download it and follow the instructions at www.tomcoyote.org/hjt . Don't "fix" anything just yet, as most of it will be required.

Hi Strawb2, and welcome to TSG.. :)

Did all this start happening at the same time as you installed broadband. If so, then you may only have to play around with your IE settings. Goto Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options and click on the Advanced tab.

Scroll down to the Security section. (See attached) Make sure that the entry Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed is not checked. If checked, this will remove your cookies, the files that keep your online passwords/logins etc. each time you reboot. Also, a few lines down, you will see the entry... Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode. See if there is a check mark next to it. As Corrosive says, make sure there is.. very useful, if annoying.. :)

If both these things are as I suspect, then it's just settings that have been made following your new broadband installation.
EDIT: If it hasn't happened at the same time as this, then please follow Corrosive's advice and download and run HJT. But please don't fix anything yourself. :)

Hi Strawb2,

Could you please download 'Hijack This!' from http://www.spywareinfo.com/files/hijackthis.zip
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply.

This will give us a rundown of what’s going on in your PC. One of us here will be glad to analyse it for you. Don’t fix anything yourself yet, as a lot of the stuff on that list will be harmless or required.

It's quite possible that you've picked up something nasty in the time between installing broadband and everything changing. This is pretty much a certainty if you haven't got a firewall, (essential these days) and an uptodate Anti Virus.

Cheers

Liam

This entry below.. as you have a home network, do you recognise the DNS.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{529BCD53-80B0-4366-B457-ECD16DC16BBF}: NameServer = 213.120.62.97 213.120.62.98

The DNS doesn't resolve to anything  :) If you don't recognise this from when you set up the network, could please fix this entry as well. If in any doubt, leave it for now... (y) :) We can always deal with that later.

Then if you could download Spybot - Search & Destroy, from www.tomcoyote.org/spybot : if you haven't already got the program.

Now press Settings, and Settings again. Go to the Webupdate section, and check "Display also available beta versions".

Now press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds marked RED. Then reboot.

Then go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options click the Programs tab, then click the Reset Web Settings. This will reset your home and search pages back to default (M$). You can then change them to what you wish, as normal.

Cheers

try

tools - internet options -privacy -advanced and then set to accept cookies.

Also check if you have cookie pal, or other type of cookie stopper on.
I sometimes have that problem and have to set to allow cookies to come in.

Could also be security settings with a fire wall.

Worth checking to see if java is enabled in your Security settings.

Tools/Internet Options/Security tab/Custom Level/ Check your Java settings in there are not switched off. I would advise to set them to high safety.
