Ok...I am using a linksys wrt54gs router ver. 6 and it says I have to update my firmware (because the power light just blinks and i can not connect to the internet). The company's website

    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...SZwX3Byb2RzPTAmcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3

says i am suppose to download the new bin file for the new firmware and it says i am supposed to go to this web address to complete the update http://192.168.1.1 So I downloaded the firmware update but the problem is i can not connect to that page. i get an internet explorer can not connect. WTH?! how can I fix the firmware problem if the companies own website for the router is down? any suggestions because i am clueless. If you do have another way please be specific because I am not exactly tech savy. thank you for your assistance.

Is your router configured to be something other than 192.168.1.1? If you go to your computer and do an IPCONFIG /ALL does the default gateway show 192.168.1.1 or does it show something else? If it shows something else then use that number.

The 192.168.1.1 is the default ip of the router and thus their instructions are written with the defaults in mind not what it may have been changed to.

You might want to start by resetting the router to factory defaults. Power on the router, then hold the reset button for 15 seconds and release it. Reboot the attached computer after the reset. After it's done, the default instructions should work if it's not broken.

i tried both your ideas. I cycled the router and it still won't let me use the address they have listed. so then i did the ipconfig/all and my gateway says it is 63.238.157.1 and when i search that....i get internet explorer can not find page. well actually i get a yahoo search for that ip and the closest it gives me is this page http://www.dshield.org/ipinfo.html?ip=63.238.157.1&update=yes

i really am stuck...i don't know what to do if i can't access the site to update the firmware on my router. this thing is basically brand new so it would really bug me if it is bricked already.

What else is connected to the router in addition to your computer? Unless the router is broken, which you did indicate is possible, you have your modem connected to another LAN port of the router. Make sure there is nothing else connected to the router, or else that the modem is connected to the WAN (internet, modem) port.

sorry....called tech support...after hours of hold time and support it is determined it is simply broke. it wouldn't reset and my computer couldn't connect to router. well it lasted 3 months so that should speak well for product reliability. i am just going to buy a new one.....not worth messing with returning and hasseling with customer service. thanks for the help....
