I've just downloaded MS Live mail and am trying to use it with my email account ( Btinternet ). I've added two email accounts to it but the emails i'm sending just stick in the outbox. I've read some of the old posts here and tried to follow some of the advice but none of it has worked so far. I'm getting the following error message:

The connection to the server has failed.

    Subject 'Test'
    Server: 'mail.btinernet.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
    Protocol: SMTP
    Port: 587
    Secure(SSL): No
    Socket Error: 10061

    Any help gratefully received.
    Thanks.

    Hi Plimbo

Should the Server name you have:
    Server: 'mail.btinernet.com'

    be the following, instead?
    Server: mail.btinternet.com

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't use the inverted commas when typing and don't know why it appears like that in the error message. However, I've solved the problem! I needed to switch on SMTP authentication!! For anyone who needs further info, I used this site: www.btyahoo.com/smtp.

    Thanks for the support.

    Regards,

The commas are not the issue - it was that a "t" was left out of the
error message. It was unknown whether you copied the error
message and it was left out in your settings or just misspelled
for posting here. Based on your answer for solving the problem,
it was apparently just misspelled here.
