Lost my itunes program after an update. Never had any problem before with itunes. Guess I lost all my songs I had on playlists. I've tried to uninstall itunes and all its files in the order that the Apple Community forum said too and then reinstall itunes. I tried many times with one time successful but when I went to open itunes from the desktop I got:
The procedure entry point:
KCM Forman Description Extension_Verbatin Sample Description could not be located in the dynamic link library Core Media.dll.

Other times I get to the point where a box appears saying Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
Abort Retry Ignore

I am lost with what to do here. Don't really want to reinstall the operating system which I don't know that would fix things. Can someone point me in the right direction here?
Windows 7 64-bit operating system
Dell Studio 1749

first lets see if the music library is OK

goto
Start globe>
Computer>
c: > (my have a name like system or local drive)
users>
your user name
My Music>
itunes>
itunes media>
music>

all the files should be there ( if you set itunes to manage and copy the files to the itunes library)

so check that and confirn you have at least a copy of the music

they should be stored in the database files with your iTunes folder, they are .itl & .xml files.
At least thats how they used to be stored
and still looks like that on the latest version

so we need to know get itunes back running again

you have removed itunes from uninstall programs

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

Type the following command
SERVICES.MSC

OR
Control Panel>
Administrative Tools>
Services>

for windows 8
Windows+R keys to open the Run dialog
Type the following command
SERVICES.MSC

now look down the list for
apple mobile device service

Is the service is set to Started or Stopped
and
Is the service is set to Automatic or Manual

Yes I have already uninstalled all apple products and reinstalled itunes. Only once did Itunes installed and yes when I did get it installed and tried to open it from desktop I got the message that you showed in your post.

When it wouldn't install, I got the Apple mobile device service failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
Abort Retry Ignore

how long ago did the problem occur?
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Restore PC to an Earlier Date & Time

Go Start>>All Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore

  • Click in the radio button Choose a different restore point
  • Click Next
  • put a tick in Show more restore points
  • Pick a Date before this happened
  • Click Next
This should restore the PC to that time & date

you may need to use safemode to do the restore. As the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu will appear - choose safemode

The problem occurred over the weekend. An update came up and I ran the update for itunes but after it finished, I lost my itunes.
I tried a system restore from over a month ago but that didn't help.

I went back to a restore point from jan 27th and did a system restore. Then it restarted system but showed that there is a file missing in the dynamic link libraries.
Is there anything else I can do?

The procedure entry point CMBlockbuffer Copy databytes could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll !

Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes.

theres quite a few suggestion in this long thread -
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3720969
- dealing with that error codes
and various solutions that have worked for people

it maybe worth taking the time to go through all three pages and see if anything works from there

I had uninstalled itunes and all of its components last nite. I restarted my laptop and reinstalled itunes 12.1 64 bit and it went through.
I was surprised but now, no errors! All my music is there now, playlists.....etc

Thanks etaf for all of your help! I don't really understand why after doing a system restore from late jan that Itunes was not there but anyway it is now.:D
