Solved: Major Problems with 98se

    Help !!

    I had to do a "Scanreg \restore my system,(98se) I think because I deleted some software. Any way...while I'm booting...I get a message that says...C:\progra~1\symantec\symevnt.386....press any key. Then I press any key...up comes...C:\progra~1\norton~1\norton~2\navap.vxd.....press any key. So I pres a key.....NEXT....comes up: CSHOOK.VXD. Ok...after pressing any key for the third time...my screen finally appears...only it looks like it's is "SAFE-MODE"...but it's not.....I go to my "display panel" & I pick "clouds" for my background. Everything is "GRAY". I check on my settings..640x480 pixels.........BUT....I only have 2 or 16 colors !!! HELP....Please !!!

    Edit.....got all the messages fixed......but I still only have 16 colors om my monitor (under"display panel" ) I use to have 256 true colors.......how do I solve this problem ??

    Looks like somewhere along the line your graphics drivers got the boot. If you have the driver cd you should be able to install them without a hassle. If not, get back into safemode and remove the drivers first. Don't forget to look under the Add/Remove software also for your graphics drivers associated apps. Once that's done, reinstall the driver ;)

    I agree. You need to reinstall the drivers for the display adapter/video card - preferably any updated ones.

    Ok....I've looked under"control panel".....-------->"system"....and found a yellow question mark (?) next to SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus.....is this the "graphics drivers" that you all are talking about ? The moniter is a plug & play......."Aquaview 7GS".


    Is there a "graphics drivers" on the 98se disk ? I have a full OEM 98se disk ? If so.where would these drivers been list at ?
