So can anyone recommend a way to get rid of yazzle.clickspring? I have tried...

Avast
Adaware
Windows Defender
Regseeker
CCleaner
Easy Cleaner
Spybot
Physically editing the registry

Any ideas?

Thanks...

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Also do this:
Run HijackThis and click Open the Misc Tools section
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager
  • Save list
  • click on the Desktop icon or select to save the list on the desktop
  • then click save.

Open the file and copy/paste the contents back here in your next reply.

Go to add/remove programs and remove these:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
Java(TM) 6 Update 2

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cust...ch/search.html
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {06663B56-0D73-4f9f-BCC5-4AA941470AFD} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06663B51-0D73-4f9f-BCC5-4AA941470AFD} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E3EA4FD1-CADE-4ae5-84F7-086EEE888BE4} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E3EA4FD9-CADE-4ae5-84F7-086EEE888BE4} - (no file)

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    Under Main choose: Select All
    Click the Empty Selected button.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

Many thanks, Cybertech. Things seem to be running smoothly. A bit of a hassle to get the Java stuff, but a trip to regedit seemed to fill the bill. I was beginning to wonder if it was a waste of time posting here. A quick look around surely says that this is a busy place, so I thank you immensely for your help.

I downloaded that the other day after I read about it on one of the other threads. Great program. It did solve the problem as far as I could tell, so I kept the program and use it along with the free versions of Ad Aware and SpyBot. Those may go if I can determine and be sure that it handles all of the cooties.

If you have the time, what is your opinion on Zone Alarm products? I came across some germs in my search for other things that my free stuff (Windows Defender, Avast, AVG) wasn't handling. I happened to be in a local Office Max and saw their AV program (their firewall included) on sale and having used their firewall for years dropped a few bucks on the program. It worked great. Just wondered what you thought.

Again, many thanks. This forum rocks!!!(y)

I use the free version of ZoneAlarm firewall. I like it because it gives you both incoming and outgoing.

SUPERAntiSpyware will get along fine with Ad Aware and SpyBot. I would say keep them all. Doing scans with different products is not bad as they can not all be up to date all the time. ;)
