Hi there

Awesome site! Glad I signed up.
Please help. I have a problem and am really struggling to solve it. I have noticed from this site many have had the same problem but I have been wary of using the solutions suggested as the problem, although the same, has been encountered on a different model machine to mine.

I have an ACER Travelmate 2480 and am receiving the MemCheck.exe error messages on startup. I have discovered through reading various posts that it is to do with the Empowering Technology startup items preloaded on an Acer. I have also noticed many posts have included a Highjackthis log - so I have provided one for my machine. Please have a look through it and let me know how I can solve this. I'm sure if I disabled the startup entries for Empowering Technology it would solve it but I don't want to do that - I want the error fixed. I am not sure how this happened. I shut my laptop down yesterday in a rush - Microsoft Word was still open - and when I started up again I began receiving the error messages. Here is my log file

Thanks for the speedy response :)

Here is the error message I get each time I start up. I know it has something to do with Acer Empowerment Technology

Application popup: MemCheck.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services : Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id=0x524 (1316), Thread id=0x530 (1328).

Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

Howdy

Thank you so much for the help. It seems to have rectified itself which I'm very happy about. I had McAfee Anti virus installed which I received as a free 'gift' from my ISP. I have always trusted AVG and thought I would re-install that today after first uninstalling McAfee - which I have just done. Rebooted after deleting McAfee- and no error messages. It must have been related to that. Once again thanks for the speedy response and maybe someone will gain some help from these posts should they have the same problems. I'll definitely stay with you guys. Am very impressed :)

Hi there,

I've had the same problem. My computer displays:

Memcheck, exe - Common Runtime Language Debugging Services.
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
Process id=0x148(328), Thread id=0x160(352).
Click OK to terminate the application.
Click CANCEL to debug the application.

When I went into Msconfig and onto the Startup tab, I couldn't find anything related to memcheck. exe.

Help!
