    Hi,

Recently i have not been recieving and incoming mail, this has been happening for the past 4 days. I decided to click the "send and recieve" button and then and error came up:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

After this it then asks me to login to the server, my username and password seems to already be entered, however, when i click ok nothing happens and most of the time the logon window pops back up!

Im running AVG if this has anything to d with the problem, however, i have had AVG for a couple of years now and had no problems with it until now!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Matt

    MattGillman,

First thing - this could be a temporary issue with your ISP / E-Mail provider - you may choose to wait to see if the error goes away. Or contact them.
4 days - doubt an issue would last that long - possible.

If AVG is causing it - here are directions to turn off E-Mail scanning if it is enabled - if not then it would not be an AVG issue:

    http://techdept.fidnet.com/Email/avg.htm
    ----------------------------------------------------------

Someone her at TG Forums has a similar post -a person reported that restoring Windows to a previous date fixed this issue - I would be sure my password is working first. You can see the post at the link below:

    http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/121876-oe-wont-accept-my-password.html

If you know your password - re-enter it - as it may have become corrupted.

You can reset your password by going to the link below:

    http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email/troubleshooting/username-prompt.php

Look for the last paragraph in "Try the following: " on the web page link above.

By looking at your POP mail server - you appear to be using virginmedia as ISP.
To get help with your password you can go here and fill out the form on link below:
    https://help2.virginmedia.com/assets/customer_zone/userpassformCZ.html

Or you can call for password support:
    0906 212 1111

If you are sure of your password - you may try creating a new profile in Outlook Express.

This link shows you how - Your original profile is still intact you are adding an extra one - not deleting your current one - for troubleshooting.

Here are the settings for Virgin E-Mail:

Here is a link for E-Mail help - not password only:

    Good Luck,

    Hi MattGillman

Normally, the User name has the ISP domain after it.
Unless you edited the picture prior to posting it here, you should have @ntlworld.com entered as part of your user name.

When I was looking at ntlworld / virginmedia help - it stated specifically not to use the @ntlworld.com - shown on links I provided to their help.

But EAFielder is correct - it usually is required - you can try it - if it works - sweet.

To check your password you can try logging into webmail:

    Hi Matt,

From the other problems you've been having recently, coupled with the password logon popping right back up, I would suspect a problem developing with the Registry keys for the Identity (particularly if this is the original Default Main Identity).

Simplest thing to try would be to create a New Identity, set up your account from scratch in it, and see if the password problem occurs in the New Identity.
If it works OK, Import your mail and contacts from the old Identity.

Thanks guys for all your help! PROBLEM SOLVED :)

When you started talking about Virgin Media, if jogged my mind that Virgin had taken over NTL and so i remember, we had had our internet speed upgraded only a few days ago and we had a problem logging into the Virgin Media website due to a problem with our account and so at that time we changed our password! (There was the problem) I didnt realise this applied to the email account aswell though, but now i do!

    Thanks again

    Matt
