I just lost my E drive. This drive has been working for many years...it's where I play dvd's/cd's. All of a sudden it has disappeared and my dvd's dont play anymore. It doesn't show up when I tried to find it with Windows Explorer. This evening I loaded a trial version of Photoshop Elements 7 from a disc supplied to me by Photoshop and that's when I found out I had no more E drive. Can anyone help? Please.....

possibilities, listed as worst to not so bad.

    1. The drive has died - replace it

    2. The data cable that connects the drive to the motherboad (desktop only) is defective - replace the data cable

    3. Laptop? Power off the laptop , unlug the AC adapter and remove the battery then: Remove and re-insert the optical drive several times to clean the contacts, see if it works now. (this could be a project depending on the model of laptop you have)

    4. Remove upper and lower filters in the registry, reboot.

Some more info-maybe this will be of more help.

When I put in a dvd/cd the drive light blinks as if it's reading the disk, the disk turns for a while(you can hear it) then the drive stops. I went to device manager and found the yellow exclamation mark against the drive. It also stated that "windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware (code 37).
    What do you think?

In device manager right click on the drive and select "uninstall", then restart the PC, Windows will reinstall the driver, see if it works now. If not I suspect the drive is defective.

    Try this site: http://www.kuhnline.com/index.php?id=76

It suggests Adobe Photoshope can corrupt the DVD driver register and shows how to correct it. I have a similar problem after installing H&R Block Taxcut software, but that was not the solution for mine.

I solved problem of missing drive by uninstalling Photoshop. I didn't need it anyway. It was only a trial version. I rather have my cd/dvd drive back.
Many Thanks to all who tried to help me.\
