I have a 2WIRE GATEWAY modem model 2701HG-B connected to my PC. Looks to be wireless enabled.
but green light is not on, nor has been since installed a couple of years ago. Know how to fully
and functionally enable?

Those are indeed wireless capable. The wireless may be disabled by default depending on your internet service provider.

If you currently have a device (laptop, iphone) does it see a wireless network named 2wire### (the ### representing a randomly generated string of 3 digits). If so, try to connect to it using the number printed on the modem in brackets in this fashion -- [0123456789].

If not, you should be able to point your web browser to http://192.168.1.254 (this is the default IP for 2wire, but it could be different) . Failing that , http://gateway.2wire.net might also work.

Once you're in the gateway's web interface, you can enable/disable wireless capability, change the broadcasted name (SSID), encryption type (WEP, WPA, WPA2) and password.
