So, recently, while playing Mass Effect (the first one), my monitor usually blinks while I'm playing. It suddenly went black, then normal again, then black,... just like how you rapidly press on/off on your monitor.

I tried lowering the graphics to almost minimum, but the problem still exist, albeit much less frequent. I have no problem playing Team Fortress 2 at high settings though.

    My specs:
    Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50 GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory: 3328 MB Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
    Display mode: 1440 x 990 (32 bit) (60 Hz)

Anyone knows why the problem exist? And how to solve it?

So the problem only happens while playing 1 game in particular? Try playing other graphically demanding games other than Team Fortress 2 and Mass Effect and see if the problem persists.

Well, I've also tried TES4: Oblivion at max settings, with some graphical enhancing mods, and the problem sometimes happens (although very rarely).

The problem also happens when I'm playing Alien Swarm (the new free game by Valve), I had to set the graphics to minimum and enable Vsync, and the problem seems to occur less frequently.

On my old monitor, I played Assassin's Creed at max settings, and nothing happened. Too bad I don't have the game now to test.

I don't have many graphically impressive games, to be honest.

I would suggest uninstalling current drivers and reinstalling the latest of the appropriate website. Then reboot your machine and see if the problem persists.

Since I'm going to sleep, try THIS site, download the drivers, install, reboot your machine and try the game(s). If you're unable to do any of this, I will be able to assist you in the morning.

I installed the driver thingy from Nvidia, and to my surprise, my screen just suddenly stop blinking while I'm playing Mass Effect. With particle settings set to high and textures at ultra-high, the only thing I experienced is a drop in FPS, which is no surprise.

Although, I still think the problem might appear again. I'm in a hurry now, so I don't have the time to go through some of the more graphically impressive gunfights in Mass Effect. But if the problem reappears, I'll contact you.

    Thanks a lot.

I have to bother you guys again...

The problem still exists. My monitor still blinks when I'm playing Oblivion at high texture levels (with mods), although much less frequently, compared to the time before I updated the driver.

Is there anyway to get rid of this?

EDIT: I'm using Windows XP, by the way.

EDIT 2: Sorry again, I think I solved the problem. I was using the 16-bit colors. I changed it to 32-bit. Everything seems to work fine now.
