    How do I move programs and files to my external hard drive?

    Hi lilred, and welcome to TSG.

    FYI, you posted in a forum for members to share tips and tricks that they know; not for asking for tips or tricks.

    If your are running any version of Windows, you should be able to move user data files such as documents, photos, video, and music files from the system drive to the external drive with little or no difficulty.

    You will probably need to uninstall most programs and then try to re-install them on the external drive. Most programs install additional files on the system drive and create registry entries to keep track of and link the installed files. Some installers may not give you the option to install the main program on an external (removable) drive. You should find out if any of your programs have this limitation BEFORE uninstalling them.
