When I open Visual Studio 6.0, I receive a few error windows, prompting that "The instruction at 0X0080113 referenced memory at 0X00394158. The memory could not be read".

Can anybody help, please?

Welcome to TSG....

What are the errors with msiexec.exe aka windows installer that you are getting?

Also do you have the Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 install disks?

Thanks for your prompt reply. This is a windows installer error. I have tried re-installing windows installer per the article from Microsoft and it did not fix it. Also, when I tried to start the windows installer service, it gave me the exact error - "The instruction at 0X0080113 referenced memory at 0X00394158. The memory could not be read".

Yes, I have VS6.0 CD.

Please help.

I reinstalled the Redistributable (v2) and still no luck. The reinstall did not update my msi files.

My current versions of msi: C:\Windows\System32\msi.dll - 3.1.4000.2435; C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe - 3.1.4000.1823; C:\Windows\System32\msihnd.dll - 3.1.4000.1823. They all have a datestamp of 5/4/2005.

I'm having the same problem with windows installer:

The instruction at "0x00801123" referenced memory at "0x007e4060". The memory could not be "read".

I've tried everything suggested by Microsoft, I've been to about 20 different forums and tried all their suggestions, nothing so far has worked. I don't want to reinstall windows because it is such a pain with all the software I have installed. Help would be extremely appreciated.

I was looking around Administrative Tools > Services

If you Right Click on Windows Installer
Hit Properties
Navigate to the Log On tab
Check Mark Allow Service to Interact with Desktop

I am now able to install programs again, and haven't seen the error messages. Maybe it will work for you
