    Hello,
recently I have had a pop up at most every Windows start up that has msncorefiles in it. At one time it had another file in it. I ran Spysweeper and both the other file and the msn pop up stopped, but then the msn pop up came back.
I read a forum thread here that had someone remove Java eventually in this instance, so I have removed Java. I don't believe I use it, anyway.
    Thank you,
    GF

Start>Run>type in MSCONFIG>Startup tab - uncheck any program (ie: any reference to msn folders) you don't want to run when you start Windows

    How to use MSCONFIG

Thank you. I tried a few links. This isn't working for me. Is there an easier way to do this?

    Welcome to TSG!

There may be a malformed run key that will not show up in MSConfig.
Go to this thread Stop MSN folder on Startup
and download the rqrunkey.zip file in post 15 and follow the instructions to run it and post the results here.

Well the Hijack log shows the malformed key, so no need to download the rqrunkey.zip file.

This following line will remove the malformed key. Open the Run box (Start | Run) then paste this line into the box and press enter.
A Command Prompt window will appear, asking if you want to delete the value. Say yes, and it will remove that key, and the MSN folder will no longer appear.

If you want MSN Messenger to start when Windows start, just run it and re-check the box to Automatically run when you log into Windows, under Options | General (depending on which version you have)

    reg delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v msnmsgr

    HTH

That seems to have done the trick! Thank you both very much. I have been googling and working on this for days and getting nowhere (I hate to admit it)
