My brother clicked on a message sent to him which said "is this you" or something like that, and now his computer is infected with something that prevents a lot of apps from running. They will open and then close almost right away. From reading some of the other threads on this fourm i downloaded hijackthis but i had to run it in safe mode.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Here is the hijackthis log.

Please Download http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=get9 to your desktop.
    · First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
    · Double click MsnVirRem.exe to run it
    · Once open, click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
<<Your computer will now be scanned for Infected Files>>
    · When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
    · Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
    · After the Reboot, you WILL receive file not found errors (usually 4) please acknowledge them and continue.
    · A Message should popup from MsnVirRem if not, double click the program again and it will finish
Please Post the contents of C:\msnvirrem.log

Download http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    · Restart your computer
    · After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    · Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    · Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    · Choose your usual account.
    · Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    · Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    · It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    · Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    · When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    · Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    · Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

    5. Select override automatic cookie handling button.
    6. To block third party cookies select block under "Third-party cookies".
    7. Select "always allow session cookies".
    8. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen

Please click here http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html to download the latest version of JAVA Install the application, then go to the Add/Remove Programs options in the Control Panel and Remove ALL previous versions of JAVA.
    ============================

Add remove programs – remove My Way Search

You may want to print this or save it to notepad as we will go to safe mode.

Fix these with HiJackThis – mark them, close IE, click fix checked

    DownLoad http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip or
    http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

    C:\WINDOWS\ICROSO~1
    C:\Documents and Settings\Brian h\Application Data\?racle
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bctaej.dll

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

    START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
    Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new hijack log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

I finished all the steps and there were only a few things that were different than what was listed.

I had no problems with SDfix.

I blocked the 3rd party cookies in IE. But I mostly use firefox, is there something i should do for that as well?

The Java installation was fine, as was the Removal of My Way Search , and Previous Java versions.

When i was fixing with hijackthis, there were only two files that weren't listed ...

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\deSrcAs.dll

... both of these seem to be associated with the my way search, which i had removed in the step previous, so i figured there was no problem there.

When using Killbox, the 3 files you listed to be deleted were not found so i just closed killbox and continued.

Here is the log for sdfix and the hijackthis log after everything else was finished.

As Far as i can tell everything seems to be working all right, the problems that i could see, like the blocking of any antivirus from working, and various other apps being shutdown as soon as they opened have stopped. there was also an issue with the sound not working, but that's fixed as well.

The only thing i have a question about is when you click the start menu, in the upper left area above the commonly used programs where you see Internet, Email, etc. there is a program called Install_Messenger_nous. I don't think this was there before this whole thing, so should i be worried about that and how can i get rid of it.

Thanks again for all of this help.
