This site has been fantastic :) thanks for all the help. I just hope I can get rid of some of these files. I have had a bunch of programs come and go on this computer. I would just like to clean it up a bit. But I dont want to touch the wrong files.

    Have you tried ccleaner?

If you click on Issues it deletes unneccessary files from the registry
create a back up first it gives you the option.

    and it is free

    here is the link

Ok.. I downloaded and ran it. I have not cleaned it yet because there isnt an option to back it up. Is it ok to still clean it?

yes, sorry I didn't explain it too well
it is only when you run the registry cleaner part, when clicking on Issues, it gives you the option to back up.

Yes delete what the cleaner has found

Excellent! Thanks... cleaning now. I will run the registry checker too, see what it comes up with. But it just cleaned 70 MB of "stuff" WHEW! Knew there was a bunch of junk on my computer!

Quick question, I have Adware, and Intelinet and now CCleaner... you probably cant recommend which is best, but it seems CCleaner does ALL of the things that Adware AND Intelinet do in one program. Think it would be a good idea to get rid of the other two programs??

NO, adaware looks for spyware on your computer
ccleaner just cleans out the junk files
another good programe for spyware is malwarebytes, never heard of Intelinet

    Hi Joan,

I have McAfee for the anti virus. I will definitely download the malwarebytes. I am getting rid of the Intelinet. I am not all that fond of it. Nothing really wrong with it. I just like the stuff that you have recommended better.

My computer is running much better already. I am very happy with the changes so far :)

I've been reading your last few replies about using the registry cleaner function of CCleaner. Hopefully, you haven't trashed some of your programs. The only way to find out is to go down the Start menu list and open each program one at a time and make sure that they all still work.

Registry cleaners tend to be too aggressive and can remove valid registry entries along with the invalid ones. And cleaning the registry doesn't speed up things any.

Can you post a new HijackThis log?
