When I import jpg files from my camera, Vista is attaching an icon (blue rectangle with two "greater than" symbols) which I see when opening the folder with the files. This is annoying because it blocks a portion of the picture (significant amount unless you use Extra Large Icons to view. Does anyone know what has happened and if there is a way to get rid of this icon?

Those Icons may have something to do with what program is associated with that type of file.

You can do a right click on one of them and select properties, on the general tab it will tell you what program is associated with that type of file.

Do other image files of that type have the same problem?

Type means .jpg .jpeg .gif .tiff ect

If it is the program icon imposed on top of the thumbnail, you should be able to go to Tools>Folder Options>View tab and uncheck the display file icon on thumbnail option. I'm using W7RC but it should be the same or very similar in Vista.

Thanks for trying. I changed the "Open with" to another program but It had no effect. Yes, the blue and "greater than" icon appears on other types of files. I am also seeing some with a green box with check mark in it.

I did find this "display file icon on thumbnail" and unchecked it but it had no effect. Perhaps Vista is different than W7
