Hi, well um, I just bought Fallout: New Vegas for PC. My first PC gaming investment. And I'm getting choppy, shuttery, lag.
    I'm currently running:

    AMD Sempron™ 140 Processor
    2.7 GB of RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 3 (build 7601), 64-bit
    GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Any suggestions on getting an upgrade for FREE? I don't have the funds for a new PC or
    a hardware upgrade.

Also, I have 2 things that seem to be graphics cards that I pulled from my Windows XP:

    Conexant MPEG II A/V ENCODER CX23416-12 0508Y1N8 0509 Taiwan
    Agere SV92PL~T00 SV 0513S 4005724 03 Agere

    Thanks.

Also, I have a friend with the Windows 7 Ultimate disc. If that helps, please tell me.

First thing.....visit "CanYouRunIt"...it may show you why the game runs poorly.

FREE upgrade? None that I can think of.

    Steam Fallout: New Vegas requirements:
    OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP
    Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz
    Memory: 2GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 10GB free space
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6 series, ATI 1300XT series

Right off the bat, the AMD Sempron™ 140 Processor is only a single core CPU.
I assume that the 2.7 you have posted refers to this CPU speed.
2.7 GB doesn't sound like a proper amount of memory.
Also, GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 isn't going to provide a great gaming
experience. Integrated video (part of the motherboard) usually doesn't.

Windows 7 Ultimate won't improve the speed of the computer.
The two cards that you took from the other computer are likely
a video capture card (Conexant MPEG II) and a modem (Agere SV92PL).
    Neither are video cards.

About all I can recommend is to make sure that you SHUT DOWN
all other programs before you start playing a game. It might help a little.

Ok, well in that case, Tom, I can make a software upgrade. I can't upgrade any hardware.
My cousin has a lot of software discs, OS discs, etc. Including Mac OSX, etc.

Although I feel that it IS a lack of hardware, is there any way to improve my software to get better performance? Price is of no concern.

Also I average 5 FPS in-game, according to Fraps. Everything closed. Which is odd because in Alliance Of Valiant Arms I get an average of 45.
But considering Fallout is a big open landscape compared to an enclosed map, it has more meshes to load. Ugh, I'm rambling.

So, anyway, can I fix this through software?

Since it's free, you might want to give Game Booster a try to see if it helps or not.
    http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

I haven't used it myself...I've always looked to high quality
high performance hardware for my own gaming computers.

    p.s.
If you really want to try something more serious, then do a total
fresh hard drive format and don't install any extra software.
Computers run the best when the install is fresh and uncluttered.

IMO, there's no such thing of a free upgrade.
Most programs you can find online are basically programs that close other unnecessary programs.(eg. theme settings, etc)

If you are unsure about your rig, you can visit www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
as stated in one of the replies above.

If you need reviews or hardware suggestions for budget gaming or hardcore gaming, you can always search online or ask it here. I'll be happy to help ;D

Game booster helped a TON! Thank you!
I'm getting about 20 FPS on average!
The only time I lag is when there a lot of moving items (obviously)

    Thank you very much!
