Go to www.belarc.com. Download/install and run this small free program. It will tell you everything on your computer (hardware/software) including license numbers etc.
I print this off and keep a copy for each computer we have. It has come in handy as a reference more than one time.
Post back and let us know if this works for you.

if u have a dell computer and are using a dell branded cd for windows xp u shouldnt ever need to activate it at all. when u installed or reinstalled did u boot from the cd? if u just put the disk in and started installing it thats why its probably asking u to activate it.every dell computer ive owned whether it was brand new or used that came with a dell branded copy of windows xp cd whether home or pro ive never ever had to type in the product code or activate it.hope this helps u.

tjronek1:

According to service tag number 5F4MT61 that you have listed in your computer specs, it's assigned to a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop. You advised that you reinstalled XP in a Dell laptop. If we're dealing with a different computer here, please advise what the correct service tag number is.

Service tag: JS8SQK1
Dell Inspiron 1011 Notebook
Here is the Dell support and software site that's specific to that Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (1011) laptop. I suggest that you save this site so you can refer to it when needed. It'll especially come in handy if you need to obtain any device drivers that the reinstall of XP didn't install.

Belarc Advisor will likely display the volume license product code that Dell used to install XP in that laptop, and won't display the product code that's on the sticker.

Like I previously said, this key(M2MQP-CVKC8-PPY68-CGQBH-RYB66) that Belarc Advisor is showing is most likely the volume license key that Dell used to install XP in that computer and is not the key that was on the Microsoft sticker before it got worn off. If you can still partially read the key on the Microsoft sticker, you'll see that the letters and numbers are different.
