    Hi

Using a HP notebook with Vista basic and am unable to connect to the wireless network. The computer can pick up the router but will not connect. This is a connection in a flat but it is un-authenticated. At the moment I am connecting using 3G mobile internet.

Disable encryption and MAC Address filtering on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

thanks for your help but where do i find those options? I do not have the software for the router as I have moved into a shared house and the system was already installed. Is this a problem because I am using XP?

It connects to the net no problem when using a ethernet cable.

No, but it's confusing me. A week ago you were using Vista Basic?

Connect to the router by ethernet and login to it. Settings for encryption and MAC Address filtering will be in the wireless section probably.

Most times when a computer can connect to a given router by ethernet but not wireless it is because of encryption key mismatch or because MAC Address filtering is being used to lock the computer out.
