    The internet and network has been timing out and this has been happening for a while now, I have a cable internet from buckeye cable systems with an Arris CM450A Router, this is connected to my dell xps 420 with windows vista home premium via Ethernet.

    I've been having connectivity problems for quite some time like I said, whenever I try to upload or download anything my connection times out sometimes even a flash page will kill my internet. Recently I bought an MSI GT660 laptop with Windows 7 and connected a Cisco Linksys E3000 wireless router to the cable modem, and I can't seem to fix the internet connection, I have read a lot about why my internet could be so sporadic, I've tried power cycling, I've tried disconnecting my speakers with amplifiers, I have attempted to upgrade the firmware for my ARRIS CM450A but I'm pretty sure it should be plug and play. While I am on the laptop, any stress on the connection will cause the connection to time out, sometimes Ill get a message that states the Network Connection has timed out. It doesn't always happen though some days I may be able to browse or do my homework without incident but if I try to do anything that would strain my connection I lose it...I need help. Here are the results of my ipconfig stats, any advice or tips would be really cool and I'd appreciate it.

    can we see the following ping tests when its working and then when it stops repeat the ipconfig /all and all the ping tests

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    {Ping Tests}
    If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

    Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    Type the following command
    Ping {plus the number thats shown against the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all}
    Post back the results
    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
    control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
    control key + V to paste

    Type the following command
    Ping google.com
    Post back the results
    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
    control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
    control key + V to paste

    Type the following command
    Ping 209.183.226.152

    These pings are while the connection is working, I am currently trying to stress the connection to get it to crash and time the pings. I also just checked my network map and my cable router doesn't show up on my laptops network map.

    so those pings test the connection to router and to the internet using IP and DNS name
    see what you get when it disconnects

    I can't seem to time it right, the disconnect is rather fast and it automatically reconnects shortly after it times out. Any suggestions? And a side note, I've had this problem prior to owning this laptop and the wireless router, my cable modem would just time out on my desktop PC all the time for the past few weeks, maybe its the cable modem? Should I run those tests on my desktop as well? I'll keep trying to get a ping when it disconnects.

    UPDATE-got all ping tests while connection was down.

    If you suspect that the culprit is not the router then you should be testing with a computer connected directly to the modem. And also watch the modem LEDs to see what, if anything, they tell you about the disconnects.

    So plug the Desktop back into the cable modem (its currently running on the wireless) to run tests and possibly reconfigure the modem? Whenever the connection gives out the Ethernet light goes off and the online light turns off then in succession the rest of the lights go off then they reset and re-establish connection.

    I would put defective modem at the top of my suspect list. Could still be the ethernet cable or the device (router or computer) at the other end of the cable including what etaf just posted.

    Yea I disconnected the remote connection to the desktop to run the ping tests on the modem, I've already hooked it back up and can run more tests on my desktop using the wireless connection I'll post them here shortly. power light blinks, offline light goes off after connection times out ethernet and cable continue to blink. I got the new ipconfig settings for my desktop when the desktop is hooked through the wireless connection.
