hi, plz i need ur help. i set up a new network at home, between a laptop and a desktop both with xp, the desktop had internet and showed up on the network as part of the workgroup, as for the laptop, well at frist it had internet but was not showing up on the network, and when trying to repaire the connection, i kept getting a msg saying something about the netbt not repairing or renewing or something, then i was advised to download and run the winsockxpfix so i did, it worked, until i restarted or shut down the pc, coz then, i would not only have no sharing but also no internet and now instead of the NetBT i would get the renewing ip error. so i looked on the internet and read in one of ur forums that i should enter the cmd the type something to reset the ip setting to the way they were when the windows was installed, and it worked like a charm, and now, a couple of houres later, everything went back to the way they were, no internet no sharing no showing up on the network, no nothing. plz help.
ps: whenever i run the winsockxpfix, stuff work out again, untill i turn off or restart the pc, where the same problem pops up again

You need to present a logical query, and also format the text so we can read it.

Please supply the following info, exact models of the equipment please.

The name of your ISP and country of residence.
Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).
    Connection type, wired, wireless.
Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).
Version and patch level of Windows, i.e. XP-Home SP2.

    Also, let's see a HijackThis 2.00.2 Log.

I need the exact make/model of the router and modem.

Also, please start a new thread in Security and post your HJT log there. You have several spyware entries that may be affecting your networking, so we need to clean those up.

Finally, you should NOT use that WINSOCK fix on XP-SP2, the following procedure is the proper way to repair the TCP/IP stack on SP2 and Vista.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2 & Vista.

For XP, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

For Vista, Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

    Reboot the machine.

where should the label be? coz the only hardware i got other then what is on the laptop and the desktop, is the router coz i get my internet via cable....
i checked my laptop device properties, i found that the modem (if this is what u want) was a realtek rtl8139/810x family fast ethrernet nic , and i got that the network adapter was a ac97 data fax fastmodem with smartcp.
sry if im not giving u the ifo u need

Well, there is a CAT5 cable plugged into that router's WAN port, and on the other end of that cable will be a modem. That's the one I want the model number for.

Did you do the fix I posted previously? Let's see this after you run the fix:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
