Solved: Nikon Scan was unable to find any active devices

I have just hooked up a Nikon CoolscanV to the IBM Thinkpad after a reinstall. The scanner just generates a message saying 'Nikon Scan was unable to find any active devices.'
I have checked the USB port and cable. They are all right.
In Computer Management, Device Manager, the scanner appears under 'Imaging Devices' and right-clicking tells me that it is 'working normally.'

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
